The principal cost driver in manufacturing is not so much the cost of each item, but the process itself. This is confirmed in many studies carried out by Arnold Umformtechnik jointly with Mahle AG at its Öhringen factory. The decision to implement fastening technology using thread-forming screws has brought about a radical reduction in the cost of production at Mahle.

• Implementation of intelligent fastening technology
• The quality of the process has increased
• Throughput times have reduced
• The number of rejects has fallen
• Productivity has risen
• The cost of assembly and of preparing the screw location has considerably lessened.

Result: Even though the cost of the fastening material has risen, overall costs have reduced by up to 80 per cent.
